@Rats_Gem: garak from DS9 is a pretty good example of the gay voice you pointed out (it feels homophobic even though the character was supposed to be canonically queer. they decided not to explicitly say that though (and they just gave garak the gay voice/made him a tailor in the hopes someone would Pick Up On It. remember this was the 90s) and just put it in one of those pocket ds9 novels instead.

what's really weird is that there's SEVERAL canonically queer/trans characters in DS9 (most obviously dax , and the mirror universe versions of ezri, kira and leeta are all sapphic. and i guess Q counts even though he's in one episode and that's more dubiously canon anyways. there was also that entire episode where quark gets a sex change and then gets one back (which shows that transitioning is perfectly normal and easy in the star trek universe!))
